Storm exposure is not evenly distributed. The highlighted counties are the high-exposure Atlantic and Irish Sea grids — the places where Storm Éowyn's January 2025 outages ran longest and where multi-day autonomy is normal design intent, not gold-plating. Lower-exposure midlands and east-coast counties still lost supply in January 2025; the difference is frequency and restoration time.
Whatever the county, three things are constant: the connection must be carried out by a RECI-registered electrical contractor, the unit must never be able to backfeed the ESB Networks grid, and there is no SEAI grant for generators — budget for the full installed cost.
